PTI government is preparing to build a gem city in Islamabad. The mission is to establish a one-window facility to promote international investment and exports in the gems and mineral areas.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan received a comprehensive report and directive on the development of the Gem City. In addition to this, he also received a detailed report on how to devise a roadmap and likely problems they could face whilst building. However, the PM believes this is a viable venture and expressed his confidence. Pertaining to this, Khan believes this gem city would not only create tremendous job openings but also help boost exportations.

A meeting was held where they explored viable solutions to issues related to reserves of precious gems, research, and how to market this in order to draw foreign entities. Nonetheless, coordination from both federal and provincial governments is essential to make this a success. According to the recent budget released mining and quarrying sector is declining and lagging behind. The sector has a lot of problems including poor regulatory systems, lack of research initiatives, poor infrastructure, and outdated technology.
